Spray tanning is a safe, sunless way to achieve a natural-looking golden glow without UV exposure. A fine mist containing DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is applied to the skin, where it reacts with the outer skin cells to develop a bronzed colour over 6–8 hours. Results typically last 5–10 days depending on your skin type and aftercare routine.
To extend your tan, moisturise every day and avoid prolonged water exposure. Wear loose clothing, apply SPF when outdoors, and hold off on exfoliating until you're ready for your next tan. A top-up every 7–10 days will keep your colour looking fresh and consistent.
If this is your first spray tan, we strongly recommend booking a trial tan before any major event such as a wedding, photoshoot, or modeling assignment. Every person's skin reacts differently, and a trial ensures you know exactly what to expect before the big day.
The bronzer you see immediately after your appointment is not your final color. It is a temporary guide color that rinses off at your first shower, revealing your true tan underneath. Your tan will continue to develop for up to 24 hours after your first rinse so do not judge your results until the following day. Hands and feet always fade first — this is completely normal. Results are also not guaranteed to be identical every visit. Skin changes with hormones, seasons, hydration levels, and medications, all of which can affect how your tan develops from appointment to appointment.
Please read this section carefully before booking.
• Pregnancy — if you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before booking a spray tan. We want to
ensure your safety and comfort and defer to your provider's guidance.
• Eczema, psoriasis, or active skin conditions — solution may irritate active flare ups and can develop patchily over affected areas. If you are currently experiencing a flare up, please cancel or reschedule your appointment until your skin has calmed.
• Open wounds, cuts, razor burn, or irritated skin — solution can sting over broken or irritated skin and will develop unevenly over those areas. Please allow your skin to fully heal before your appointment.
• Recent chemical peels or laser treatments — your skin is too sensitized after these treatments to take a tan evenly. Please wait until your skin is fully healed and cleared by your provider before booking.
• Botox or fillers — some providers recommend waiting before applying any topical treatments after injections. Please check with your provider before booking.
• Medications — birth control, hormone replacement therapy, and antibiotics can all affect how your tan develops. Results may vary. Let your technician know before your appointment.
Schedule your manicure, pedicure, facial, waxing, brow laminations, and hair appointments before this window. Blow drys should be done before your spray tan or after your first rinse only.
Do:
• Wax or shave at least 24 hours prior so pores have time to close.
• Complete brow laminations at least 48 hours before your tan.• If you had brows tinted within 24 hours, let us know so we can apply occlusion cream — or wait 48 hours after your tan to tint.
• Begin moisturizing daily in the week leading up to your appointment for best results.
• If you have an existing self-tanner or old spray tan that hasn't fully faded, allow it to fully exfoliate off before your appointment. Coming in with product still on the skin can affect your results.
• Remove all jewelry including rings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces before your appointment. Solution underneath jewelry can cause uneven development.
Don't:
• Do not get sunburnt in the last 4 weeks. If you have a recent sunburn or peeling skin, please cancel your appointment.
• Do not use retinol, retin-a, exfoliating serums, or vitamin C on your face, neck, or chest for at least 1 week before your tan. No retinol on neck or chest for at least 2 weeks prior.
• Do not book if you have had a recent chemical peel or laser treatment until your skin is fully healed.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Use an exfoliating mitt or brush only — a loofah does not count as an exfoliation method and will not properly prep your skin. No sugar scrubs or anything that leaves a residue. This is the single most important prep step. Pay extra attention to dry areas like knees, elbows, ankles, and hands — these areas naturally grab more color and can go darker if not properly exfoliated.
Do:
• Exfoliate your full body with a mitt or dry brush only.
• Give extra attention to knees, elbows, ankles, and hands.
• Shave or wax if still needed — do it now so pores have time to close before your appointment.
Don't:
• No loofahs — they do not provide the level of exfoliation your skin needs before a spray tan.
• No sugar scrubs or scrubs that leave an oily or waxy residue.
• No bar soap or body wash the day of your appointment. Even natural or gentle bar soaps leave a
residue on the skin that can block the solution from developing evenly.
Do:
• Take a full shower the night before and wash deodorant off very well. If you must shower the day of — rinse only, no soap.
• Face skincare: wash and apply a light moisturizer only — no SPF. Note that mineral sunscreens in particular act as a physical barrier on the skin and can prevent the tan from developing evenly on the face.
• Wear dark, loose-fitting LONG clothing and open-toed sandals or flip-flops to your appointment and plan to wear something equally loose on the way home while your tan is developing.
• Wear your hair up during your appointment. Do not let damp or wet hair touch your skin after the tan as it can cause streaking.
• Arrive 5–10 minutes early.
• If coming from a pedicure, ask them to skip the lotion step.
• If you have light or white car seats, cover them before driving to your appointment.
• Bring an umbrella if it's raining and cover all body parts including feet.
• If you wear contact lenses, bring your case — you may need to remove them during application.
Don't:
• No lotion, creams, or perfumes of any kind.
• No deodorant — solution and deodorant can create a green tint.
• No bar soap or body wash.
• No SPF or mineral sunscreen on your face.
• No exercise the day of — if you must, rinse sweat with water only, no soap.
• Nursing moms: bring a strapless back-clasping bra and wear long sleeves to avoid transferring color.
• If you are on birth control, hormone replacement therapy, or antibiotics, please be aware these medications can affect how your tan develops. Results may vary. Let your technician know before your
appointment.
Your tan will continue to develop for up to 24 hours after your first rinse. Don't panic if you look lighter than expected right after showering — you will deepen overnight.
Do:
• Keep skin completely dry until your designated rinse time — be mindful even when washing hands.
• At rinse time, use lukewarm water only. Rinse until the water runs clear, using your hands to glide the solution off. No hot water.
• For express/rapid solutions, wait until your second shower to apply lotion.
• Pat dry with your towel — never rub.
• Cover your car seat with a dark towel on the way home from your appointment.
• Sleep on old or dark sheets the night of your tan — the temporary bronzer may transfer but will wash out.
• Drink plenty of water and apply lotion 1–2 times daily.
Don't:
• Do not urinate in the shower — it creates a streak on the leg that cannot be fixed.
• No tight clothing, bras, or socks until after your first rinse.
• No massages, waxing, band-aids, or anything that will lift the tan prematurely.
• No loofahs, sponges, scrubs, or exfoliants for at least 5 days.
• No sport or anti-sweat sunscreens.
• Avoid intense workouts the day after — if you sweat frequently, ask us about our premium solutions.
• Be mindful of purses, bags, and seatbelts rubbing against your skin. Carry bags by hand, not on your shoulder.
• No retinols, vitamin C, acids, or exfoliating cleansers — gentle wash and gentle lotion only.
• Switch to fragrance-free lotions and body washes after your tan. Heavily fragranced products break down the tan faster and will shorten the life of your color.
• Moisturize twice daily with a gentle, fragrance-free, non-exfoliating lotion. Avoid anything with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) as it promotes exfoliation and fades your tan faster.
• Pat dry after every shower — never rub.
• Avoid long hot showers, baths, hot tubs, and saunas.
• Wait until day 3 to shave — shaving is a form of exfoliation.
• Before swimming, apply a thick layer of sunscreen lotion to create a barrier between your tan and the water. Chlorine and salt water will fade your tan significantly faster.
• Avoid DHA-based self-tanners between appointments — they can cause a yellow tone when layered over a spray tan.
• After every five weeks of spray tanning, let your skin rest for 10 days. A professional body scrub during this time is recommended to prep for your next tan.
• Your spray tan does not contain sunscreen and will not protect you from sunburn. Please apply SPF separately whenever you are in the sun.
• Your tan typically lasts 5–10 days depending on skin type, workouts, showers, and water exposure. Hydrated skin always holds color longer.
• Hands and feet will always fade first — this is completely normal.
• Results are not guaranteed to be identical every visit. Skin changes with hormones, seasons, hydration levels, and medications, all of which can affect development from appointment to appointment.
• Dry skin tends to fade faster and can become patchy more quickly. Staying on top of daily moisturizing is especially important for you.
• Oily skin may not develop as deeply as other skin types. This is normal and does not mean the tan was applied incorrectly.
• All results vary by individual. If you have questions or concerns about how your skin type may affect
your results, talk to your technician before your appointment.
